Don’t Forget the Booster Fan When Dryer Vent Cleaning.
Don’t forget the booster fan when dryer vent cleaning? Most people are aware that their dryer should be cleaned every year, but may not be aware that the booster fan also requires cleaning. Some companies will not even realize there is a booster fan installed and completely miss it.
Some dryer vent ducting lines are extremely long and require a booster fan to remove all the hot air and lint completely to the termination point. Without a booster fan you face longer dryer times, increased energy usage, and most importantly a higher potential for dryer fires.
Excessive ducting on dryer vents leads to increased back pressure which you can read about on our dryer vent cleaning measurements page. The increased back pressure results in less air extracted from the dryer.
The maximum length for dryer venting is 25 feet from the dryer to the termination point. The length is reduced by 2.5 feet for every 45-degree bend and 5 feet for every 90-degree bend.
If your dryer vent ducting is longer than the above measurements, you require a booster fan. The booster fan is exactly what it sounds like. It will increase the air velocity inside your dryer vent, allowing for safe effective extraction of heated air and lint from your dryer.
